Snow depth exceeds one meter in Azerbaijan's Shahdag

Weather conditions in Azerbaijan have intensified, with heavy rainfall reported in the Balakan-Shaki zone and significant snowfall in mountainous regions. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the National Hydrometeorological Service's official report as of 11:00 on April 14, unstable weather conditions continue across the country.

The snow depth has reached 101 cm in Shahdag, 36 cm in Zaqatala (Alibay), 34 cm in Qakh (Saribash), 18 cm in Khaltan and Gryz, and 12 cm in Khinalig. Additionally, snow cover of 6 cm was recorded in Shahbuz and Qusar (Laza), 2 cm in Kalbajar, and 1 cm in Lerik, Lachin, and Shusha. Precipitation levels reached 32 mm in Gabala, 28 mm in Oguz, 23 mm in Sabirabad, 22 mm in Shaki, 18 mm in Ismayilli (Ivanovka), 16 mm in Agsu and Balakan, 13 mm in Shamakhi and Bilasuvar, and 11 mm in Neftchala and Lerik.

In the capital Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, as well as in Beylagan, Dashkasan, and Nakhchivan, 4 mm of rain fell. Other regions, including Ganja, Naftalan, Shabran, Jabrayil, Qubadli, Khankendi, Khojaly, and Fuzuli, recorded up to 1 mm of precipitation. Such sharp changes in spring weather are characteristic of Azerbaijan's diverse climate zones, where mountainous areas often experience late-season snowfall while lowland regions face increased rainfall. The National Hydrometeorological Service continues to monitor the situation to provide timely updates for transport and agricultural sectors.
