Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov has extended an invitation to President Ilham Aliyev to participate in the informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), scheduled to take place on May 15 in the city of Turkistan.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Olzhas Bektenov made the announcement during a meeting with President Ilham Aliyev. "We look forward to welcoming you and the heads of member states to the sacred city of Turkistan on May 15 for the informal OTS meeting, and we are preparing to host our high-level guests," the Prime Minister stated. He emphasized the dynamic development of relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan, highlighting major economic initiatives, including the strategic fiber-optic cable project under the Caspian Sea. "This project, which will connect Europe with China and the Asian region, is expected to be completed this year and will provide a significant boost to the development of our region," Bektenov added.
The Organization of Turkic States, formerly known as the Turkic Council, serves as an intergovernmental organization comprising Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and Uzbekistan, with Hungary and Turkmenistan as observers. The upcoming meeting in Turkistan underscores the growing geopolitical and economic integration among Turkic-speaking nations. Turkistan, often referred to as the spiritual capital of the Turkic world, has become a focal point for regional diplomacy, reflecting the member states' commitment to strengthening cultural ties and advancing joint infrastructure projects like the Middle Corridor and trans-Caspian digital connectivity.
