President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has sent a congratulatory letter to Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed on his election as secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the letter said:
“Dear Secretary-General,
I sincerely congratulate you on your election as secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and wish you success in your responsible work ahead.
Azerbaijan attaches particular importance to cooperation with the OIC, and the current level of our relations is a source of satisfaction. During the 35 years since Azerbaijan joined the organization, it has played an active and responsible role in the OIC’s work, contributed to strengthening Islamic solidarity and actively participated in enhancing the organization’s international standing.
Azerbaijan, in turn, has always felt the OIC’s consistent support. During Armenia’s nearly 30-year aggression against Azerbaijan and in the post-war period, the OIC demonstrated a resolute position by adopting resolutions and statements strongly condemning the occupation, supporting Azerbaijan’s just cause, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and welcoming reconstruction and development efforts in our liberated territories. We highly appreciate all of this.
I am confident that the close cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will continue to develop steadily. As you know, Azerbaijan will host the 16th session of the Islamic Summit Conference in 2027, as well as the 13th session of the Islamic Conference of Information Ministers and other events. I hope that we will cooperate closely and effectively with you in this regard.
I believe that your leadership of this esteemed organization will contribute to fulfilling the important tasks facing the OIC and strengthening Islamic solidarity.
Once again, I extend my sincere congratulations and wish you robust health, happiness and success in your honorable work for the welfare of the Islamic world.”
The OIC is an international organization representing Muslim-majority countries and promotes cooperation among its members on political, economic, cultural and humanitarian issues.
