Moroccan King Mohammed VI has expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia after Houthi attacks on Saudi territory, saying any assault on the kingdom would also affect Morocco.
In separate telegrams sent on Saturday to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, Mohammed VI said the security and stability of Saudi Arabia, as well as other Gulf Cooperation Council states, formed an integral part of Morocco’s security.
“Any attack on Saudi Arabia is an attack on Morocco,” he said, according to the source report.
Morocco condemns attacks on civilian targets
The Moroccan monarch voiced deep concern over strikes targeting civilian and economic facilities, critical infrastructure, cities and residential areas in Saudi Arabia.
He also condemned attempts to target Mecca, Islam’s holy city, saying they warranted further denunciation.
Conflict spills across Yemen’s borders
Yemen has been embroiled in conflict since the Houthis seized Sanaa and several provinces in 2014. A Saudi-led coalition intervened in 2015 in support of Yemen’s internationally recognised government.
The conflict has more recently extended into Saudi Arabia, with Houthi attacks targeting the kingdom, including its oil infrastructure, after the group declared a maritime blockade in July.
