Yemeni forces strike Houthi positions and supply lines in Taiz

Yemeni government forces said on Friday that they had struck Houthi positions and supply lines in the southwestern province of Taiz.

Military spokesman Majid Abdullah al-Nazili posted footage on “X”, formerly known as Twitter, which he said showed attacks on Houthi fighters and supply routes in Dhubab and other areas of Taiz, according to the report.

Dhubab is a coastal town in the Bab el-Mandeb district overlooking the Red Sea, near the northern entrance to the strategic strait. Al-Nazili did not provide details about casualties or damage.

Houthi claims of air strikes

Separately, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed that Saudi warplanes had carried out 14 air strikes and a missile attack over the previous 24 hours in Taiz, Amran, Marib and Saada provinces.

The claims by the two sides could not be independently verified.

Yemen’s prolonged conflict

Yemen has been embroiled in conflict since the Houthi movement seized the national capital, Sanaa, and several provinces in 2014. The takeover prompted a Saudi-led Arab coalition to intervene in 2015 in support of the internationally recognised government.

Fighting resumed in July after the Houthis declared a maritime blockade on Riyadh. The group has recently claimed advances along the Red Sea coast and near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, while also targeting Saudi Arabia’s oil infrastructure.
