Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with Rebeca Grynspan, the Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation and global economic integration.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) reported that the meeting focused on the current state and future development prospects of the partnership between Azerbaijan and UNCTAD. The sides exchanged views on sustainable development, international trade, investment promotion, digital transformation, the green economy, and the integration of developing nations into global economic processes.
Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov emphasized the importance Azerbaijan attaches to multilateral cooperation, highlighting the country's initiatives in regional connectivity, transport and logistics capabilities, energy security, and the climate agenda. Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan expressed satisfaction with the development of cooperation, praising Azerbaijan's growing role in regional economic collaboration and connectivity projects. She underscored the significance of expanding joint projects in trade and development within the UNCTAD framework.
The discussions also covered the post-conflict normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, restoration and construction work in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, as well as the situation in the Middle East and the impact of current tensions on the global economy and trade. UNCTAD, established in 1964, serves as the principal organ of the UN General Assembly dealing with trade, investment, and development issues, particularly helping developing countries access the benefits of a globalized economy more equitably.
