Four people were killed after a helicopter crashed in Sainte-Brigide-d'Iberville, a town about 50 kilometres from Montreal, Quebec provincial police told the BBC.
Emergency services were called shortly after 14:30 local time on Saturday after reports that a helicopter was in distress and may have crashed. Responders found the aircraft on fire and declared all four occupants dead at the scene.
Investigation under way
The victims have not yet been identified. Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau said the aircraft appeared to be a private helicopter and warned that the identification process could take several days.
The Sûreté du Québec’s Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation, working with crime-scene technicians and investigators from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
Crash site near Highway 10
The crash occurred near Rang des Écossais road, off Highway 10, according to Bilodeau. The fire had been brought under control about an hour after the emergency call, although officials remained at the scene shortly before 22:00 local time.
