According to the National Hydrometeorological Service, unstable and rainy weather conditions are expected across Azerbaijan in the coming days. Forecasts indicate that precipitation will be intensive in some regions, with potential short-term flooding in several mountain rivers, accompanied by strong winds and lightning.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) has issued an appeal to the public regarding the anticipated adverse weather conditions, reiterating essential safety protocols.
The Ministry advised that due to the risk of flooding and waterlogging caused by intensive rainfall, citizens should avoid dangerous areas. In the event of such hazards, individuals are urged to immediately move to higher ground and strictly follow the instructions and recommendations of rescue personnel.
Furthermore, during periods of strong wind, the public is advised to stay away from light structures, temporary buildings, billboards, and to avoid standing under power poles, electrical wires, or tall trees. Small vessel operators are also reminded that maritime activities are prohibited under such weather conditions.
To mitigate risks associated with lightning, the Ministry recommends disconnecting electrical appliances from the power grid, avoiding the use of telephones (landline, mobile, etc.), and staying away from power lines, lightning rods, gutters, and antennas while outdoors. Those in vehicles are advised to stop, roll up windows, and wait for the storm to pass.
“Remember: Indifference to safety rules is a threat to our lives! In case of danger, call 112,” the Ministry of Emergency Situations emphasized in its statement.
