The Ministry of Emergency Situations (FHN) of Azerbaijan has issued an official appeal to the public regarding expected windy and unstable weather conditions across several regions of the country.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the National Hydrometeorological Service forecasts intensive rainfall in various areas over the coming days. The warning highlights the potential for lightning strikes, occasional strong winds, and short-term flash floods in certain mountain rivers.
In light of these forecasts, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reminds citizens to strictly adhere to safety protocols. During strong winds, individuals are advised to stay away from light-weight constructions, temporary buildings, billboards, and tall trees, and to avoid standing near power poles or wires. Given the increased difficulty of extinguishing fires during high winds, the ministry emphasized that fire safety rules must be followed with particular rigor. Furthermore, small-vessel operators are prohibited from entering the sea under such weather conditions.
To mitigate risks from flash floods and inundations caused by heavy precipitation, the ministry recommends staying clear of flood-prone areas and immediately seeking higher ground if a threat arises. For lightning safety, the public is urged to disconnect electrical appliances, refrain from using telephones, and avoid proximity to power lines, lightning rods, and antennas. If caught outdoors, individuals should seek low-lying areas rather than sheltering under tall trees; those in vehicles should stop movement, roll up windows, and wait for the storm to pass.
The Ministry of Emergency Situations in Azerbaijan regularly issues such advisories to ensure public safety during seasonal weather transitions. These measures are part of the state's proactive approach to disaster risk reduction and civil defense, aimed at protecting the lives and property of citizens from natural hydro-meteorological phenomena.
