Mawlawi Mati-ul-Haq Khalis, the head of Afghanistan's National Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA), is leading a delegation to the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that NEPA released a statement confirming the delegation's departure for the Republic of Azerbaijan to participate in the prestigious international event.

The delegation intends to take an active role in technical sessions and discussions dedicated to climate change, urban environmental protection, sustainable development, and waste management. Key topics on the agenda include the development of "green cities," reducing air pollution, and increasing the resilience of urban systems. During the visit, the Afghan representatives also plan to hold meetings with international organizations, donors, and various national delegations to discuss environmental cooperation, technical assistance, and the implementation of joint projects.

WUF13 is scheduled to be held in Baku from May 17 to 22. The forum is organized through close cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), focusing on the exchange of international expertise in sustainable urbanization, "smart cities," and innovative urban solutions. Established by the United Nations in 2001, the World Urban Forum is the world's premier conference on cities, addressing the challenges of rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, economies, and climate change.
