Azerbaijan has signed a letter of intent with UN-Habitat to develop organizational guidelines for future host countries of the World Urban Forum (WUF). According to Operative Information Center-OMM, the announcement was made by Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Advisory Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture of the Republic of Azerbaijan, during a press conference marking the official closing of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).

Chairman Guliyev noted that this initiative is designed to serve the formation of the forum's long-term institutional legacy. He emphasized that Azerbaijan is currently implementing large-scale projects focused on urban renewal, the expansion of "green infrastructure," improving housing conditions, increasing climate resilience, and the formation of inclusive communities. Furthermore, the chairman highlighted that one of the world's largest reconstruction programs is currently being executed in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, including the Garabagh and East Zangazur regions.

The World Urban Forum, established by the United Nations in 2001, is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. By hosting and contributing to the organizational framework of WUF, Azerbaijan reinforces its growing role in international urban policy. The country's experience in rebuilding cities like Agdam, Fuzuli, and Shusha from the ground up using "smart city" and "green energy" concepts provides a unique model for sustainable post-conflict recovery and modern urban planning on the global stage.
