Nostalgia and emotional sentiments regarding the former Aghdam and Fuzuli remain significant as Azerbaijan continues its large-scale reconstruction efforts in the liberated territories.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, this was stated by Emin Huseynov, the Special Representative of the President in the Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts, during an event held in Baku as part of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
Huseynov noted that the approach to restoring the liberated territories covers all areas, starting from the management framework to the actual implementation of projects, their phasing, as well as the process of the population's return and resettlement. "Of course, when you carry out restoration and reconstruction, you do not necessarily have to return to previous standards. There are nostalgic and emotional feelings about the old Aghdam and Fuzuli. However, the world is changing, technology is evolving, and we live in an era of innovation and technology-based development. Therefore, we must use the best opportunities that technology offers," he added.
The restoration of the Garabagh region is currently one of Azerbaijan's top national priorities following the liberation of its lands. The government is implementing the "Great Return" program, which focuses on building "smart cities" and "smart villages" to ensure sustainable development and high living standards for returning internally displaced persons. These projects integrate green energy, modern infrastructure, and digital management systems to transform the once-destroyed regions into economic hubs of the South Caucasus.
