Ukraine has agreed to take part in US-proposed trilateral technical talks with Russia in the United Arab Emirates or another location suggested by Washington, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday.
Speaking at a joint news conference with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Zelenskyy said the United States had put the proposal to both Kyiv and Moscow. Russia is expected to respond, according to Ukrinform, which reported his remarks.
Talks proposed for the end of October
“The American side is currently in contact with Ukraine and Russia, proposing a trilateral meeting at the technical level by the end of October,” Zelenskyy said. He added that he had confirmed the previous day that Ukraine was open to attending in the UAE or another country proposed by the United States.
Zelenskyy says Ukraine will respond to attacks
Zelenskyy said Kyiv would continue responding to Russian attacks, including strikes on bridges in the capital over four consecutive days. He said he was “amazed” by what he described as Russia’s “savage desire to escalate the situation every day”.
He said Russian strikes had targeted logistics hubs, including “Nova Poshta” and “Ukrposhta”, and referred to a Ukrainian response targeting “Wildberries”. Zelenskyy questioned whether Moscow expected Ukraine not to respond to attacks on bridges.
He also said Russia continued to target civilian infrastructure, including data centres and mobile network facilities. Accusing Russian President Vladimir Putin of pursuing “constant escalation”, Zelenskyy said this was what the Russian leader wanted.
“This serves as an answer to all those who believe that one simply needs to ask Putin nicely and he will surely end the war. It simply won’t work,” he said.
