At least 11 killed in mass shooting in South African township

At least 11 people were killed and three others wounded when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a home in South Africa’s eastern KwaZulu-Natal province, local media reported.

The attack took place in KwaMakhutha township, south of Durban, before 11 p.m. local time on Tuesday, according to South African television channel eNCA. A pregnant woman was among those killed.

Ten victims died at the scene, while another died from their injuries while being taken to hospital.

Attackers set vehicle on fire

The victims had gathered inside a residential property when the assailants entered and opened fire. The attackers then set fire to a vehicle belonging to the homeowner before fleeing.

The motive for the shooting remains unknown. Authorities have not reported any arrests or identified the suspects.
