A 5.4-magnitude earthquake has struck Greece, causing tremors felt across the region.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) released data regarding the seismic activity. According to the center, the epicenter of the earthquake was located approximately 155 kilometers west of the city of Larissa, which has a population of about 144,000 people. The earthquake originated at a focal depth of 5 kilometers.

Local authorities and emergency services have not yet reported any casualties or significant damage to infrastructure. Seismologists continue to monitor the area for potential aftershocks, which are common following tremors of this magnitude. Residents in the vicinity of the epicenter reported feeling the vibrations clearly, though the shallow depth of the quake often increases the intensity of the shaking felt at the surface.

Greece is situated in one of the most seismically active regions in the world, located at the junction of several major tectonic plates, including the Eurasian and African plates. This geological positioning makes the country prone to frequent earthquakes, though the majority do not cause serious damage. The city of Larissa and the surrounding Thessaly region have historically experienced seismic events, leading to the implementation of strict building codes designed to withstand such natural occurrences.
