Azerbaijan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the attack by a group of protesters on the United Arab Emirates (UAE) embassy in Damascus, the capital of Syria.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the MFA released a statement regarding the incident on its official X account.

"Such acts of violence against diplomatic missions are unacceptable and constitute a clear violation of international law, as well as the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which guarantees the protection and security of diplomatic personnel and premises," the statement reads.

The MFA further noted that Azerbaijan welcomes the statement issued by the Syrian government and its commitment to taking all necessary measures to hold the perpetrators accountable in accordance with the law.

The Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 is a fundamental international treaty that forms the legal framework for diplomatic relations between independent countries. It specifies the privileges of a diplomatic mission that enable diplomats to perform their functions without fear of coercion or harassment by the host country. Azerbaijan, as an active member of the international community, consistently advocates for the strict adherence to these norms to ensure global diplomatic stability and security.
