The Caspian Sea region is a seismically active zone characterized by frequent minor to moderate tectonic movements. Azerbaijan, situated on the western shore of the Caspian, utilizes a sophisticated network of monitoring stations managed by the Republican Seismic Survey Center to track and analyze seismic data in real-time. Such events are common in the Alpine-Himalayan seismic belt, which passes through the Caucasus region and the Caspian basin.
