An earthquake has occurred in the Caspian Sea, according to official seismic monitoring data.
The Earthquake Research Bureau of the Republican Seismic Survey Center (RSSC) provided the details to the Operative Information Center-OMM. According to the bureau, the tremors were recorded at 08:45 local time. The earthquake had a magnitude of 3.7, with its epicenter located at a depth of 19 kilometers.
The Caspian Sea region is a seismically active zone situated at the intersection of several major tectonic plates. Azerbaijan's Republican Seismic Survey Center, which operates under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, maintains a network of monitoring stations to track seismic activity across the country and the Caspian basin. While minor tremors of this magnitude are relatively frequent in the area, they rarely result in damage to mainland infrastructure or the extensive offshore energy facilities located in the sea.
