During a joint operation conducted by employees of the Lankaran-Astara regional division of the Food Safety Agency (AQTA) and the Masalli District Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), 227 kilograms of meat unfit for human consumption were discovered and seized.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing AQTA, the inspection revealed that the seized product consisted of horse meat of unknown origin lacking any relevant accompanying documentation. Investigations determined that the horse meat was illegally slaughtered by Malik Sabir oglu Azizov, a resident of Bilasuvar, and was intended to be transported to Baku by Amrah Islam oglu Karimli using a Nissan vehicle with the state registration plate 10 XP 977.
The hazardous meat has been placed in storage, and samples have been taken for laboratory testing to determine its exact biological safety profile. The Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan continues to intensify its monitoring activities across the country to prevent the sale of substandard food products and to protect public health. This operation is part of a broader national strategy to ensure food security and combat the illegal trade of animal products in Azerbaijan.
Investigations into the incident are currently ongoing by the relevant authorities.
