The operational staff of the Penitentiary Service under the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan has successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle narcotic substances into the penitentiary facility in Lankaran.

According to the official statement, during a routine inspection of a parcel brought by the brother of an inmate visiting for a short-term meeting, authorities discovered 2.2 grams of dried marijuana. The illicit substance had been concealed using a specialized method inside a tube of toothpaste.
An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
The Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan regularly conducts such security operations to maintain order and prevent the entry of prohibited items into correctional facilities.
