Traffic movement on several streets and avenues in the capital will be restricted in connection with the 34th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
The Baku City State Traffic Police Department informed Operative Information Center-OMM that the restrictions aim to ensure the comfortable and safe movement of those visiting the memorial to honor the victims of the tragedy.
Starting from 08:00 AM on February 26 until the end of the ceremonies, the direction of vehicle movement will be changed on the following areas intersecting, joining, or running parallel to Khojaly Avenue:
The restrictions will cover Mehdi Mehdizade, Kamandar Ahmadov, Ayaz Ismayilov, Suleyman Vazirov, and Izzat Orujov streets. Drivers are advised to minimize the use of private vehicles in these directions and to prioritize public transport.
The Khojaly genocide, committed by Armenian armed forces on the night of February 25-26, 1992, is one of the bloodiest pages in the history of Azerbaijan. Every year, thousands of citizens and officials visit the "Mother's Cry" memorial in Baku to pay tribute to the 613 victims of the massacre. These annual traffic measures are standard procedure in Azerbaijan to facilitate the large-scale public commemoration of the tragedy.
