Strong winds are expected in Baku, the Absheron Peninsula, and several regions of Azerbaijan from the afternoon of March 27 until March 29, prompting official weather warnings.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the National Hydrometeorological Service has issued both yellow and orange alerts regarding the incoming atmospheric conditions. According to the yellow warning, north-westerly winds with speeds ranging from 13.9 to 20.7 m/s are expected in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, as well as in Ganja, Quba, Gobustan, Mingachevir, Khachmaz, Gadabay, Goygol, Hajigabul, Neftchala, Kalbajar, Lachin, Zangilan, Shamkir, Samukh, Yevlax, Salyan, Shirvan, Goranboy, and Naftalan.
A more severe orange warning has been issued for Tovuz, Gazakh, Agstafa, Dashkasan, Siyazan, Khizi, Gusar, and Shabran. In these districts, the north-westerly wind is forecast to intensify significantly, reaching speeds between 20.8 and 28.4 m/s. Authorities advise residents in these areas to exercise caution and follow safety protocols during the period of high winds.
The National Hydrometeorological Service of Azerbaijan regularly monitors weather patterns to provide early warnings for extreme meteorological events. Such seasonal wind increases are characteristic of the region's transitional climate, often requiring heightened readiness from public utility services and the transport sector to mitigate potential disruptions to infrastructure and power lines across the country.
