Starting August 15, Baku Metro CJSC will launch the primary construction phase of its project to separate the Red and Green lines. This initiative is designed to optimize passenger flow and reduce congestion across the capital's underground transport network.
This information was confirmed to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the joint-stock company. According to officials, the separation of the lines is not merely an option but a strategic necessity for the future development and modernization of the Baku Metro infrastructure.
Construction work is expected to last between 10 and 11 months. During this period, trains traveling from the "Darnagul" direction will terminate at "Nizami" station before returning. Once the project is completed, the Green line will operate from "Darnagul" through "Jafar Jabbarli" station to "Khatai" station. In the initial phase, the interval between trains on the Green line will be 3 minutes and 30 seconds. Following the completion of tunnels and turnaround infrastructure up to the Y15 station, officials anticipate reducing the interval to approximately 2 minutes.
The Baku Metro, which first opened in 1967, serves as the backbone of public transportation in Azerbaijan's capital. As the city continues to expand, the metro system has undergone significant upgrades to accommodate increasing passenger numbers and improve service efficiency.
