A total of 7,738 crimes were recorded in Azerbaijan during the first three months of 2026, marking a 4.9 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2025. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that these figures were disclosed during an online meeting of the Board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) held to review the results of the first quarter.
Interior Minister Vilayat Eyvazov stated that the crime detection rate reached 85.9 percent across all state agencies, while the MIA and the prosecutor's office achieved a 90.1 percent resolution rate. The minister highlighted that law enforcement seized 2,310 kilograms of narcotics—an increase of 648 kilograms year-on-year. Furthermore, statistics showed a decline in serious crimes, robberies, and traffic-related fatalities, with 15 fewer accidents and nine fewer deaths recorded compared to the previous year. Minister Eyvazov emphasized the need for enhanced preventive measures, particularly regarding juvenile delinquency and the protection of youth from harmful digital influences through cooperation with civil society.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan is the central executive body responsible for maintaining public order and internal security. These quarterly reviews are a standard component of Azerbaijan's law enforcement framework, aimed at assessing the effectiveness of national security strategies and the "State Program on Combatting Narcotic Drugs." The reported decrease in crime rates reflects ongoing reforms within the national police force intended to modernize operations and improve public safety across the Republic.
