The bodies of 84 Iranian sailors who lost their lives in an incident off the coast of Sri Lanka have been repatriated to their home country. The repatriation process was conducted via a special flight following the completion of identification procedures.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Ministry of Defense of Sri Lanka released an official statement regarding the transfer. According to the report, the identified sailors were killed on March 4 during an attack carried out by the United States on the Iranian naval vessel "IRIS Dena." A dedicated aircraft was organized to transport the remains back to Iran for burial.
The "IRIS Dena" was reportedly targeted amid escalating regional tensions in the Indian Ocean and surrounding maritime corridors. This incident has sparked a new wave of diplomatic and military discussions between the involved parties as they navigate the fallout of the strike. The Indian Ocean region has recently seen increased naval activity and heightened security measures due to its strategic importance for global trade and energy transit routes.
