Shia militant groups operating in Iraq have claimed responsibility for carrying out more than 30 attacks against United States military facilities in Iraq and other regional locations over the past 24 hours.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing TASS, that the operations were conducted by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella alliance of several radical groups.

The alliance issued a formal statement detailing the scale of the escalation: "Over the past 24 hours, our supporters have carried out 31 military operations against enemy targets and bases in Iraq and the region, utilizing combat drones and missiles."

The surge in hostilities comes amid heightened regional tensions involving various paramilitary groups and international forces. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq has frequently targeted US assets, citing opposition to the American military presence in the Middle East. These developments coincide with broader geopolitical shifts following the inauguration of US President Donald Trump in January 2025, as the international community monitors the administration's response to security threats against US personnel stationed abroad.
