The Pentagon has incurred approximately $40 billion in costs related to military operations and activities concerning Iran. This expenditure stems from heightened U.S. military engagement in the region and the necessity to compensate for damages to military infrastructure.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, these findings are detailed in an upcoming report by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).

Mark Cancian, a senior advisor at CSIS, stated to CNN that these costs encompass expenditures on munitions, the replacement of destroyed equipment, and repairs to American military bases. It was noted that these figures exclude broader operational costs and have already been accounted for in the Department of Defense's projected 2026 budget, which exceeds $1 trillion.

The report emphasizes that while the Department of Defense has absorbed the primary share of these expenses, the regional military tension has also impacted other agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Veterans Affairs, creating an additional financial burden of approximately $1 billion.

Previously, in May of this year, the Pentagon informed the Senate Armed Services Committee that the conflict had already cost $29 billion, a figure that included essential repairs, equipment replenishment, and general operational expenses.

Against the backdrop of these developments, the economic impact has been felt domestically in the United States. Gasoline prices have risen from an average of under $3 per gallon to over $4. According to recent data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the surge in energy costs has contributed to U.S. annual inflation exceeding 4% for the first time in three years. The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), which produced the report, is a prominent Washington-based think tank that provides strategic insights on global security and defense policy.
