Intense rainfall and thunderstorms are currently being observed across various regions of Azerbaijan, with snow falling in high-altitude areas including Shahdag and Dashkasan. According to the National Hydrometeorological Service, as of 3:00 PM on May 6, precipitation has become particularly heavy in several districts, marking a sharp shift in atmospheric conditions.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that rainfall has been recorded in Ganja, Naftalan, Mingachevir, and numerous other regions including Dashkasan, Goranboy, Shaki, and Aghdam. In the capital, Baku, and the Absheron Peninsula, rainy conditions have persisted since the morning hours. Foggy conditions have also been reported in areas such as Lerik, Shamakhi, and Gusar, with visibility dropping to as low as 200 meters in some locations, creating potential challenges for transportation.
Azerbaijan's diverse climate often experiences such sharp transitions during the spring months, where mountainous regions see late-season snowfall while lowland areas face heavy downpours. The National Hydrometeorological Service continues to monitor the situation, noting that temperatures have reached up to 19°C in Baku and 27°C in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. These weather patterns are closely monitored due to their impact on the country's agricultural sector and water resources management, particularly in the liberated territories of Garabagh and East Zangazur, where infrastructure projects are actively proceeding in Shusha, Khankendi, and surrounding districts.
