The European Association of Judges has held its annual meeting in Luxembourg, bringing together judicial representatives from across the continent to discuss the independence and functioning of judicial systems.
The Supreme Court of Azerbaijan informed the Operative Information Center-OMM that the Chairman of the Association of Judges of Azerbaijan, Ramiz Rzayev, and Deputy Chairman Sanan Hajiyev represented the country at the high-level event.
The opening ceremony took place at the Court of Justice of the European Union, with representatives from 39 countries in attendance. During the event, the leadership of the organization expressed gratitude to the Azerbaijani delegation for the high-level organization of the 67th General Assembly of the International Association of Judges, which was held in Baku last year.
The assembly featured reports from the association's working groups, focusing on the current state of judicial operations and the preservation of judicial independence in member states. Resolutions were adopted addressing judicial challenges in Europe, including the need to remove obstacles for constitutional court judges in Poland and preventing cases of contempt of court in Greece. Concerns were also raised regarding judicial independence in Hungary, Lithuania, Romania, and several other nations.
The event concluded with presentations from the leadership of the Academy of European Law, the European Network of Councils for the Judiciary, and the European Judicial Training Network. As part of the program, the leadership of the organization was received by Prince Guillaume, Hereditary Grand Duke of Luxembourg, and participants toured the Court of Justice of the European Union to study its operations.
