On June 23, President Ilham Aliyev of the Republic of Azerbaijan and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov of Turkmenistan visited the construction site of the new mosque in Shusha to review the progress of the ongoing works.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Anar Alakbarov, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, provided the heads of state with detailed information regarding the construction process.
It was noted that the foundation of the mosque was laid by the President of Azerbaijan in 2021, and the structure is rising as a new modern symbol of the historic city. Designed in the shape of the number 8, symbolizing Victory Day, the mosque complex will include main and administrative buildings, as well as separate ablution facilities for men and women. The mosque will feature two minarets, each 73 meters high, which will symbolize the number 11, representing the month in which Shusha was liberated.
The exterior of the mosque will be adorned with geometric patterns inspired by the minarets of ancient Shusha mosques. The construction of the facility is being realized with the support of Pasha Holding.
The construction of this mosque is a significant project within the broader restoration and reconstruction efforts currently underway in Azerbaijan's liberated territories. It reflects the revival of the Garabagh region and the nation's deep commitment to its national and spiritual values. Shusha, known as the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, has been a focal point of extensive reconstruction efforts since its liberation in 2020, aimed at restoring its historical and cultural heritage.
