Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Thursday that peace established between Armenia and Azerbaijan with the support of US President Donald Trump had opened new prospects for the South Caucasus, according to the source article.
Addressing the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Pashinyan said the agreement could promote regional connectivity and economic cooperation.
“The peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan established on Aug. 8, 2025, with the support and personal engagement of US President Donald Trump has opened up new opportunities for our region, the South Caucasus,” he said.
Transport links and regional cooperation
Pashinyan said no one had been killed or injured in exchanges of fire between Armenia and Azerbaijan for two and a half years, calling the period unprecedented since Armenia gained independence.
“For two and a half years now there have been no casualties or injuries as a result of cross-fire between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” he said.
The Armenian prime minister highlighted the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity, or TRIPP, a regional connectivity project intended to open transport links through Armenian territory and connect Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave.
Under a framework agreement between Armenia and the US, the jointly established TRIPP Development Company is to be owned 74% by the US and 26% by Armenia during its initial 49-year term. If the arrangement is extended for a further 50 years, Armenia’s share is envisaged to increase to 49%.
Pashinyan said the project would create new transportation routes and contribute to economic development and stability across the region.
He added that railway communication between Armenia and Azerbaijan had been restored for the first time since the Soviet period. The two countries are also working to establish direct railway links between Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan region, which is separated from the rest of the country by Armenian territory.
Armenia-Russia relations
Speaking about Armenia’s relations with Russia, Pashinyan said they were undergoing “a transformation”.
He said the relationship had previously been shaped largely by Armenia’s security concerns arising from its conflict with Azerbaijan. The establishment of peace between Yerevan and Baku, he added, was creating conditions for a different form of relationship.
