Alik Aleksanyan, a prominent supporter of Samvel Karapetyan, the leader of the "Strong Armenia" political bloc, has been arrested by Armenian authorities. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, a court has ordered a two-month pre-trial detention for Aleksanyan.
Aleksanyan, who serves as the founder and executive director of the "Po-svoyemu" public organization, faces serious charges, including large-scale money laundering and the bribery of voters. Investigative authorities allege that between October 2025 and March 2026, Aleksanyan received approximately $4.4 million and 230,000 euros from the "Tashir" foundation. Prosecutors claim these funds, ostensibly labeled as gifts or loans, were utilized to covertly bribe voters in support of the "Strong Armenia" bloc.
This arrest occurs against a backdrop of escalating political friction in Armenia. Samvel Karapetyan has previously alleged that nearly 500 members and supporters of his political bloc have been detained within the framework of approximately 30 to 40 separate criminal cases. Karapetyan has consistently accused the current government of utilizing administrative resources and political pressure to suppress opposition activities.
The "Strong Armenia" bloc has frequently positioned itself as a critical voice against the current administration, leading to heightened scrutiny from law enforcement agencies. Such developments reflect the ongoing challenges within the Armenian political landscape, where legal proceedings against opposition figures are increasingly viewed by observers as a tool for political containment.
