David Kazinyan, a representative of the "Strong Armenia" political bloc, has been arrested in Armenia. The detention follows a court ruling regarding charges brought against the politician.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Kazinyan's lawyer, Aram Vardevanyan, confirmed the development to "Sputnik Armenia." The legal process was formalized after the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Armenia revoked Kazinyan's parliamentary immunity. The defense team has described the court's decision as unlawful, arguing that the prosecution failed to present substantive evidence during the proceedings, which lasted throughout the night.
The criminal case against Kazinyan involves allegations of "preparation for bribery." His legal counsel, Aram Vardevanyan, contends that the charges are politically motivated rather than based on solid legal grounds. The politician's name had previously surfaced in audio recordings released by the Anti-Corruption Committee two weeks ago. This arrest occurs against the backdrop of recent parliamentary elections in Armenia, where the "Strong Armenia" bloc secured 23.27% of the vote, following the ruling "Civil Contract" party.
