A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck the Balikesir province in western Turkey on Tuesday morning, causing brief concern among local residents. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the information was released by the country's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

According to official data, the underground tremors occurred in the Sindirgi district of the province at 07:52 local time. The earthquake was recorded at a depth that allowed it to be felt in several neighboring settlements. Preliminary reports from local authorities indicate that there have been no fatalities, injuries, or significant damage to infrastructure.

Turkey is situated in one of the world's most seismically active zones, sitting atop several major fault lines, including the North Anatolian and East Anatolian faults. Balikesir and the surrounding Marmara region are frequently subject to minor and moderate seismic activity. AFAD and local emergency services continue to monitor the situation in the Sindirgi district to ensure the safety of the population and assess any potential secondary risks.
