A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck the Battalgazi district of Malatya province in Türkiye at 10:00 local time. The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported that the tremors occurred at a depth of 7.3 kilometers.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Anadolu Agency, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or significant destruction following the seismic event. Local authorities and emergency teams are currently conducting assessments in the affected areas to ensure the safety of the population and monitor for potential aftershocks.
Malatya is situated in a seismically active region and was among the provinces heavily impacted by the catastrophic earthquakes that struck southern Türkiye in February 2023. The country remains highly vigilant due to its location on major fault lines, with the government continuously working on disaster management and infrastructure resilience to protect the population from seismic risks.
