Le Minh Hung has been elected as the new Prime Minister of Vietnam.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media, that the National Assembly of Vietnam has officially appointed Le Minh Hung, the former head of the Organization Commission of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee, as the country's head of government for the 2026-2031 term.

The voting took place in Hanoi during the first session of the 16th National Assembly. Le Minh Hung's candidacy was unanimously approved by all 495 deputies present at the meeting, representing 99 percent of the total 500-member legislature elected in March this year. The 55-year-old official becomes the tenth Prime Minister in Vietnam's modern history since the August Revolution of 1945. Prior to this appointment, he served as the head of the CPV Central Committee's Organization Commission since May 2024 and previously spent five years as the head of the CPV Central Committee's office. Notably, in 2016, he became the youngest Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam in the country's history at the age of 46.

Vietnam operates under a unified political system where the Prime Minister holds one of the "four pillars" of leadership, alongside the General Secretary of the Communist Party, the President, and the Chairperson of the National Assembly. This leadership transition comes at a time when Vietnam is positioning itself as a key global manufacturing hub and seeking to maintain high economic growth through foreign direct investment and administrative reforms. The appointment of a leader with a strong background in finance and party organization is seen as a move to ensure economic stability and continued anti-corruption efforts within the Southeast Asian nation.
