Iran has generated its first revenue from fees collected from vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, marking a significant shift in the management of the strategic waterway.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Iranian authorities have, for the first time, secured income through duties levied on ships traversing the strait. Deputy Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Haji Babai confirmed the development, stating that the initial proceeds from these transit fees have already been transferred to the central bank's account. This follows a statement by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who previously announced that the Strait of Hormuz was open for commercial shipping. However, the situation remains complex as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared the strait closed until the naval blockade imposed by US President Donald Trump is fully lifted, dismissing the US administration's statements as "invalid."

The Strait of Hormuz is recognized as one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, serving as the primary transit route for approximately 20% of the world's petroleum liquids. Located between Oman and Iran, the waterway connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. The imposition of transit fees by Tehran adds a new economic dimension to the long-standing geopolitical tensions in the region. For Azerbaijan, maintaining the security of international energy corridors is of high importance, as the country continues to expand its influence as a key logistical hub and energy provider for global markets.
