Iran has accused the United States of committing an "act of war" by implementing a naval blockade of its ports.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Tasnim news agency, that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi characterized the U.S. naval siege of Iranian ports as a direct violation of international law and a breach of ceasefire conditions.

In a statement shared on his "X" social media account, Araghchi criticized Washington's actions against Iranian trade routes, asserting that Tehran possesses the capability to resist such restrictions. "Blocking Iranian ports is an act of war and, therefore, a violation of the ceasefire. Striking a merchant ship and taking its crew hostage is an even greater violation," the minister stated. He added that Iran is prepared to neutralize these limitations and will stand firm in protecting its national interests against external pressure.

The escalation follows a recent incident in the Sea of Oman involving the Iranian merchant vessel "Tuska." The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously condemned the U.S. intervention against the ship, labeling it as an act of piracy and terrorism. These developments occur amid a period of heightened regional tension, as the administration of US President Donald Trump continues to maintain a rigorous stance regarding maritime security and economic sanctions in the Persian Gulf and surrounding waters. Such confrontations in strategic shipping lanes often impact global energy markets and regional stability, drawing significant international attention to the security of commercial navigation.
