Iraq's aviation authorities have extended the closure of the country's airspace until at least Sunday, March 22, amid ongoing military operations by the United States and Israel against Iran.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing sources from TASS, that the flight restrictions will remain in effect until 09:00 on March 22. This decision follows a series of security assessments in the region as military tensions continue to escalate between international forces and Tehran.
Airspace over Iraq was initially closed on the morning of February 28 specifically due to the commencement of military actions by the US and Israel. Since then, regional aviation disruptions have persisted, with the airspace of Iran, Kuwait, and Bahrain remaining fully closed, while Qatar's airspace is currently subject to partial restrictions.
The regional instability follows a significant shift in US foreign policy under US President Donald Trump, whose administration has intensified strategic pressure in the Middle East. Iraq, situated geographically between the conflicting parties, remains a critical corridor for international aviation, and the continued closure is expected to cause further rerouting of commercial flights between Europe and Asia.
