Eleven Indian vessels have successfully and safely transited through the Strait of Hormuz since the onset of recent regional tensions involving Iran, according to a statement from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that during a press briefing, spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal provided an update on the status of the country's maritime assets. He noted that Indian authorities remain in constant communication with Iranian officials to ensure the continued safe passage of remaining vessels and their eventual return to India.

The Indian Ministry of Shipping previously disclosed that at least 22 Indian-flagged vessels were operating in the Persian Gulf region. Of these, 20 are considered critical to the nation's energy security. Jaiswal emphasized that the Indian government is closely monitoring the evolving situation in the region, prioritizing the safety of maritime trade and the stability of energy supply chains.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most vital maritime chokepoints, situated between Oman and Iran. It serves as the primary gateway for oil exports from the Persian Gulf, with approximately one-fifth of the world's total oil consumption passing through the waterway daily. For major energy consumers like India, maintaining unhindered access to this route is essential for national economic stability and energy security.
