İlham Əliyev: Zəngəzur dəhlizində işlər yekunlaşmaq üzrədir

President Ilham Aliyev has announced that construction work on the Zangazur corridor is nearing its final stages, with 90% of the highway and 70% of the railway infrastructure already completed within the territory of Azerbaijan.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the head of state made these remarks while receiving participants of the meeting of heads of government and the Vice President of the member states of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that expanding transport, logistics, and transit capabilities remains a top priority for the region. "The Middle Corridor passing through our countries serves the interests of each of us. Especially in the current geopolitical situation, the Middle Corridor, the Trans-Caspian corridor, the Zangazur corridor, and other projects in this direction are of greater importance," the President stated.

The President further noted that Azerbaijan has already modernized its broader transport infrastructure, including the Baku International Sea Trade Port, railways, highways, and airports. Regarding the Zangazur corridor, he expressed hope for full implementation in the near future. President Ilham Aliyev also welcomed the start of the Kars-Nakhchivan railway construction in Türkiye, noting that the coordination of these projects will open a vital international corridor. Initially designed to handle 15 million tons of cargo, the capacity of this infrastructure is expected to grow, providing a significant new transport artery for the wider geography and demonstrating Azerbaijan's commitment to global peace and cooperation.

The Zangazur corridor is a strategic transport project aimed at connecting the main part of Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave through the historical Zangazur region. This project is a crucial component of the Middle Corridor (Trans-Caspian International Transport Route), which seeks to link China and the European Union via Central Asia, the Caspian Sea, and the South Caucasus. By shortening transit times and diversifying trade routes between Asia and Europe, the corridor is expected to bolster Azerbaijan's role as a regional logistics hub and enhance economic integration among the member states of the Organization of Turkic States.
