Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is doing everything possible to prevent the establishment of an official commission of inquiry into the events of Oct. 7, 2023, former military intelligence officer Barak Seri has said.
In a post on the US social media company “X” on Saturday, Seri alleged that Netanyahu had been warned and alerted before the attacks but ignored the information. He said this was why the prime minister was personally blocking the creation of an inquiry commission.
Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Saturday that Netanyahu had received warnings about a possible Hamas attack before Oct. 7, but did not convene a meeting to discuss them. According to the newspaper, unnamed security officials said he did not share the warnings with the Shin Bet, Mossad or the Military Intelligence Directorate, known as Aman.
Reports of warnings before the attacks
US magazine The Atlantic also reported that former Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel secretly visited Israel 11 days before the Oct. 7 events to warn Israeli officials about a possible Hamas attack. Egypt has not officially commented on the report.
Israel launched an offensive in the Gaza Strip following the Oct. 7 events. The campaign has killed nearly 74,000 people, injured around 175,000 others and reduced much of the enclave to ruins, according to the report.
Continuing violence in Gaza
Although a ceasefire took effect in October 2025, Israel has continued daily attacks on Gaza, killing more than 1,400 Palestinians and injuring nearly 5,000 others, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
