At least 11 people were killed and 20 others injured in an explosion at a police checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan in northwestern Pakistan on Saturday, according to the local newspaper Dawn.
The blast took place at a checkpoint near the border between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. The dead included eight men, two women and a child, Rescue 1122 said.
Rescue teams continued operations at the site and were recovering victims from the debris. Police said several people, including officers, customs personnel and two civilians, were injured.
Investigation into blast under way
Bomb disposal teams were dispatched to the scene to determine the cause of the explosion.
The checkpoint is used by police to conduct security checks along the Dera Ismail Khan-Quetta route.
