Intensive rainfall continuing in the southern regions of the Philippines has caused serious consequences and fatalities.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing foreign media, reports that landslides triggered by adverse weather conditions have resulted in the loss of life.
The natural disaster primarily affected the provinces of Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental. According to the latest reports, at least seven people died as a result of the landslides. Search and rescue operations are currently ongoing in the region.
As the amount of precipitation remains significantly above the norm, the risk of new landslides in the area persists. Local officials have urged the population to remain cautious and follow safety protocols.
The Philippines is one of the most disaster-prone countries globally, frequently experiencing typhoons, floods, and landslides due to its geographical location on the Pacific "Ring of Fire." These provinces in the Mindanao region are particularly vulnerable to heavy seasonal rains, which often lead to soil instability in mountainous areas, impacting local infrastructure and residential settlements.
