The European Union has expressed its support for Armenia's integration into the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), highlighting the strategic importance of the corridor for European connectivity. Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the statement was made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen during a joint press conference in Yerevan following the EU-Armenia summit, alongside Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and European Council President Antonio Costa.
"We will support your integration into key transport routes such as the Trans-Caspian corridor. Given the increasing trade flows between our regions, this route is of strategic importance for Europe as well," von der Leyen stated. She further announced the initiation of a high-level dialogue on transport, noting that efficient transport networks are a primary driver of economic competitiveness. The European Commission President outlined four key areas for future cooperation: connectivity, energy, digitalization, and economic support and social resilience.
The Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, often referred to as the Middle Corridor, is a vital logistics network connecting Asia and Europe through the South Caucasus. Azerbaijan serves as a critical hub in this project, leveraging its strategic location on the Caspian Sea and its extensive railway infrastructure to facilitate international transit. The expansion of the corridor is part of a broader effort to diversify global trade routes and enhance regional economic integration between the East and West.
