Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, Sihasak Phuangketkeo, in Bangkok within the framework of the 82nd session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan released information regarding the meeting via its official channels.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and future prospects of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and Thailand. The officials emphasized the significant potential for expanding cooperation in political dialogue, economy, trade, culture, and tourism. A major milestone highlighted was the scheduled official opening of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Thailand in December 2025, alongside the first round of political consultations between the two foreign ministries. These steps are expected to strengthen the institutional framework of Azerbaijan-Thailand relations and contribute to a more systematic development of cooperation.
The ministers also addressed the importance of strengthening interaction within multilateral platforms, including the UN, UNESCAP, CICA, and ASEAN. Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided detailed information to his counterpart regarding Azerbaijan's peace initiatives in the post-conflict period, demining operations in the liberated territories, and the large-scale restoration and reconstruction work currently underway in those regions. The sides expressed confidence that the 82nd session of UNESCAP, held under Azerbaijan's chairmanship and hosted by Thailand, would yield productive results.
The meeting concluded with an exchange of views on regional security issues and the situation in the Middle East. UNESCAP, established in 1947, serves as the regional development arm of the United Nations for the Asia-Pacific region. Azerbaijan's active participation in such forums reflects its growing role as a bridge between the Caspian region and Southeast Asia, fostering economic integration and sustainable development goals.
