UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed has expressed her deepest gratitude to the Government and people of Azerbaijan for their hospitality and leadership in hosting the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13). She highlighted that Azerbaijan has elevated urbanism to a global level by declaring 2026 the "Year of Urban Planning and Architecture," developing progressive approaches that meet new challenges while respecting centuries-old traditions.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Mohammed made these remarks during the official closing ceremony of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13). She noted that large-scale reconstruction and development projects are being implemented across various regions of Azerbaijan, with significant steps being taken toward the reintegration of communities and the restoration of infrastructure and a peaceful environment. According to her, this process is gradually transforming these territories into centers of cultural vitality, social solidarity, and economic growth.
"In Baku, one of the world's oldest and continuously inhabited cities, we also see an example of renewal and resilience," the UN official emphasized. The World Urban Forum, established by the United Nations in 2001, is the premier global conference on sustainable urbanization. Azerbaijan's hosting of the event underscores its commitment to sustainable development and its experience in implementing large-scale urban projects, particularly in the context of the ongoing restoration of the Garabagh region.
