The Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan has issued an urgent advisory to the public regarding expected adverse weather conditions, including strong winds and heavy precipitation.

This information was provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the ministry.

According to the National Hydrometeorology Service, the current unstable weather, characterized by precipitation, is expected to continue until the evening of June 28. Forecasts indicate that heavy rain is likely in several regions, including Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, particularly overnight from June 27 to June 28. Authorities warn of potential localized flooding, short-term flash floods in mountain rivers, lightning, and intermittent strong winds.

In light of these forecasts, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has reiterated essential safety protocols. To mitigate risks associated with flooding and flash floods, the public is advised to avoid hazardous areas, seek higher ground if threatened, and strictly follow the instructions of rescue personnel.

Regarding lightning safety, the ministry recommends disconnecting electrical appliances, refraining from using landline or mobile phones, and avoiding proximity to power lines, lightning rods, or tall trees. If outdoors, individuals should seek lower ground; if in a vehicle, it is advised to stop, close the windows, and wait for the storm to pass.

Furthermore, during periods of strong wind, the public is urged to stay away from lightweight structures, temporary buildings, billboards, and tall trees. Given that strong winds can complicate firefighting efforts, strict adherence to fire safety regulations is mandatory. Additionally, as many citizens visit beaches during the summer season, the ministry emphasizes that swimming in the sea during strong winds is dangerous. Operators of small vessels are also reminded that maritime activities are prohibited under such weather conditions.

The Ministry of Emergency Situations regularly monitors meteorological data to ensure public safety and minimize the impact of natural disasters in Azerbaijan. These precautionary measures are part of the government's ongoing efforts to protect citizens and infrastructure from the risks posed by volatile weather patterns.
