Azerbaijani table tennis player Nihad Mammadov has officially secured his place in the Guinness World Records, marking a historic achievement for the country's sports community.
According to information provided by the Azerbaijan Table Tennis Federation (ASTF) to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the official certification confirming the record has been received from the relevant international authorities. The record-breaking attempt took place in April of this year during a ceremony held at the "Shua Sports Complex" in Baku, where the national team member sought to break the existing world record for the longest table tennis serve.
Under the supervision of officials from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the ASTF, and international referee Zaur Mikayilov, Mammadov successfully served the ball from a distance of 18.20 meters. This performance surpassed the previous world record of 17.50 meters, which was held by Turkish athlete Osman Gurcu.
This milestone highlights the growing prominence of table tennis in Azerbaijan. In recent years, the Republic of Azerbaijan has invested significantly in sports infrastructure and the development of national athletes, hosting numerous international competitions and fostering a new generation of competitors capable of achieving global recognition. The inclusion of an Azerbaijani athlete in the Guinness World Records further solidifies the nation's standing in the international sporting arena.
