Six individuals have been hospitalized in Ganja with symptoms of food poisoning after attending a funeral ceremony in the city. The Food Safety Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (AQTA) has launched an investigation into the incident to determine the source of the contamination and ensure public health safety, according to the Operative Information Center-OMM.
The affected individuals, identified as 27-year-old Tapdig Hasanli, 75-year-old Leyla Huseynova, 44-year-old Ramil Mammadov, and 52-year-old Ulviyya Hajiyeva, were admitted to the Infectious Diseases Department of the Abbas Sahhat Hospital, which operates under the Ganja United Hospital. Additionally, two minors affected by the incident were transported to the Ganja United Children's Hospital, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
This incident marks the second reported case of mass food poisoning in Ganja within the last three days. Just two days prior, eight residents were hospitalized after experiencing similar symptoms following a funeral gathering at a location on Ataturk Avenue. Food safety authorities in Azerbaijan frequently conduct inspections and public awareness campaigns to mitigate risks associated with mass catering and public gatherings, emphasizing the importance of adherence to sanitary and epidemiological standards.
